The Chemicals and Marketing segment produces and sells basic petrochemical products, derivative petrochemical products, and other chemical products.

The Natural Gas and Pipeline segment transmits natural gas, crude oil, and refined products, as well as sells natural gas.

The company's oil and gas, and crude oil producing properties are located in China.

As of December 31, 2005, the company had estimated proved reserves of approximately 11,536.2 million barrels of crude oil and approximately 48,123.1 billion cubic feet of natural gas.

As of the above date, it operated 25 refineries located in 8 provinces, 3 autonomous regions, and 1 municipality; and 15,908 owned, 427 jointly held, and 1,829 franchise retail service stations.

As of the same date, it owned and operated 20,340 kilometers of natural gas pipeline networks, 9,391 kilometers of crude oil pipeline network, and 2,462 kilometers of refined product pipeline network.

PetroChina offers refined products, such as diesel, gasoline, fuel oil, naphtha, asphalt, kerosene, lubricants, and paraffin through sales personnel and distributors to utility, commercial, petrochemical, aviation, agricultural, fishery, and transportation markets; and chemical products to medical manufacturing, printing, household products, insulation, packaging, paper, textile, paint, footwear, and furniture industries.

The company was founded in 1988 and is headquartered in Beijing, China.
