Dominion Resources, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, provides electricity, natural gas, and related services to customers primarily in the eastern region of the United States.
It operates through three segments: Dominion Virginia Power, Dominion Generation, and Dominion Energy.
The Dominion Virginia Power segment provides regulated electric distribution and electric transmission operations in Virginia and North Carolina, as well as nonregulated retail energy marketing and various customer service operations.
As of December 31, 2007, it served approximately 2.4 million retail customer accounts, including governmental agencies, as well as wholesale customers.
The Dominion Generation segment involves in the generation operations of the company's electric utility and merchant fleet, as well as energy marketing and price risk management activities associated with the company's generation assets, such as coal, nuclear, gas, oil, and renewables.
The Dominion Energy segment provides regulated gas transmission pipeline and storage operations, including gathering and extraction activities, regulated LNG operations, and the company's Appalachian natural gas exploration and production business.
It also offers producer services, which aggregates gas supply, provides market-based services related to gas transportation and storage, and engages in associated gas trading and marketing.
This segment serves residential, commercial, and industrial gas sales and transportation customers in Ohio.
Dominion Resources' portfolio of assets included approximately 26,500 megawatts of generation; 6,000 miles of electric transmission lines; 55,000 miles of electric distribution lines in Virginia and North Carolina; 14,000 miles of natural gas transmission, gathering, and storage pipeline; 28,000 miles of gas distribution pipeline; and 1.1 trillion cubic feet equivalent of natural gas and oil reserves.
The company was founded in 1909 and is headquartered in Richmond, Virginia.
