Platts reporters and other credentialed journalists congregated as the Federal Coordinator for Alaska Natural Gas Transportation Projects, Drue Pearce, discussed natural gas transportation projects in Alaska.

Pearce, a native of Illinois, moved to Alaska in 1977. In 1984 she was elected to the Alaska legislature and during her tenure served as Senate President, co-chair of the Finance Committee and chair of the Senate Rules Committee. She also participated in The Energy Council, leading delegations to various places around the world. In 2001, Pearce resigned her Senate seat and was sworn-in as the Secretary of the Interior's Senior Advisor for Alaska Affairs.

Drue provided counsel in the development of policies affecting Alaska and served as the secretary's representative on matters affecting the Arctic. In late 2006, Pearce was confirmed by the U.S. Senate and sworn in as the first federal coordinator for Alaska gas transportation projects.

The Office of the Federal Coordinator (OFC) was established by Congress to coordinate activities by federal agencies on permitting and construction of a pipeline to bring North Slope gas to markets in the Lower-48 states. The OFC is an independent office within the executive branch, reporting directly to the president.
